The UNSPOKEN
LIterary journal
stupid love
by Anonymous
When did you know it was real?
I knew it when
My heart skipped beats upon seeing you
I held onto wrappers from candy you gave me
Photo albums of us together seemed all-too perfect to be real
Even when I had your trust
Even when I had your touch
Even when I had your time
I couldn’t believe you were mine
When did I know?
I knew when thinking about you felt like the purest breath
I knew when I started hearing your name in corny radio love songs
I knew when anything remotely close to your scent smelled like heavenly incense
I knew when I drifted into my own thoughts
And people asked,
“Why are you smiling?”
You, of course.
I don’t care if love is stupid.
I’m the biggest idiot of them all.
the stars
by Leilani Fernandez
I have always reached for the stars.
I’m a high achiever
With big dreams
And a big imagination.
I have always reached for the stars.
The brightest,
The most beautiful,
The ones that light up the sky
In the darkness.
The bigger stars burn,
Like how the sun
Burns skin.
They started hurting.
They started peeling
What I had created
Off the walls
Of my mind.
I looked around,
Searched for different stars,
Different dreams,
With a different perspective.
That’s when I found you.
You are the brightest,
The most beautiful,
The one that lights up the sky
In my darkness.
You took the broken pieces
And turned them
Into something beautiful:
A constellation.
This constellation
Will be our promise,
Our story,
Our creation.
